BIOM Infinite: The ultimate innovation-driven athleisure sneaker - Designed For Sustainably

The BIOM Infinite is the first concept by ECCO Labs, created taking inspiration from the BIOM project, originated in 2009 as the first running shoe developed using ECCO’s Direct Injection Technology. This limited edition is where BIOM’s original concept of natural motion meets hi-tech materials and cutting-edge innovation to deliver the ultimate multi-purpose trainer.

Whether walking through the city streets, going for a run, or relaxing at home, each activity requires a different level of shock absorption, support or cushioning. The BIOM Infinite allows you to tune the feeling and performance of the shoe based on your needs by changing the core components. The different cores are precisely tuned using advanced materials to give you a specific experience, from a plush ride to lightweight all-day comfort, all sharing the same purpose – to make you experience a ride like never before.

MADE IN DENMARK

Factory 2025: A Step into Our Future

Factory 2025 is a highly automated test factory, built to meet the growing demands for flexible, scalable shoe production with short lead times. Located at ECCO’s headquarters in Bredebro, Denmark, the facility spans 1,700 m2 and includes automatic systems and industrial robots across five cutting-edge workshops.

In short, Factory 2025 is a single production line where the vast majority of the processes are handled automatically - from the stitching of upper components and until the shoe is ready to be worn. All machinery and robots in Factory 2025 have been developed as modular stand-alone units with a standardised Internet of Things (IoT) architecture that enables central control and monitoring of the production line.

BIOM Infinite was the first commercially produced product in Factory 2025.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

  • With the increasing need for being active, how can we be inspired by the natural motion of a person’s stride, a movement which differs per person, and caries us all day long?

  • By understanding the user, usage and style, we can create a product that is made for their personal way of walking/running/hiking. Focusing on what they need to be able to commute all ay in a comfort that is tailored to them.

  • With customization, replacing the standard PU midsole with 3DP components what are tuned to the user and activity. Creating these interchangeable components from silicone, enhancing the durability and performance.

  • This concept aims at building an emotional link with the user through customization and creating a new cycle of usability of the sneakers.

  • Consumer research shows that customization of comfort and fit is perceived as today’s innovation in footwear for active and every day use.

  • 3D printing makes it possible to respond quickly to the demand of consumers looking for an increasingly suitable and exclusive product. This process fits with the values of new consumers and brings us a step closer to mass customization.

  • Activity footwear with customized comfort and performance according to the style, usage and user. Each midsole is designed on terms of biometric criteria thanks to generative design. Making each pair unique.
